We invite you to take a look at all the opportunities.

Anchor 1

Family Ministry for Children

Strengthening Unitarian Universalist identity, engaging in social action, and using our UU Shared Values as a guide to help us make important life choices is the focus of our Religious Exploration (RE) Program. In both children and youth classes/meetings, participants engage in open-minded conversations with the goal of learning to respect and to accept others' opinions especially when they differ from their own. This set of shared values is the underlying theme of all our classes: Interdependence, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Generosity, and Justice all on a foundation of Love.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2025-26 YEAR IS OPEN

K-5th Grade - Soul Matters
We use Soul Matters, a Unitarian Universalist Association curriculum that introduces children to our Unitarian Universalist principles and history through monthly themes which incorporate storytelling and play. Children consider the spirit of love and the mystery of life in an environment designed to ellicit wonder. Following a story about a core area of our faith, children discover their own answers to a variety of “wondering” questions. A choice of hands-on activities then provides the opportunity for further discovery and expression. The program reflects values such as integrity, courage, love, wonder and seeking truth while integrating the fun of creative play! The topics correlate with Reverend Matt’s Sunday sermons, so parents and their children will be able to foster healthy discussions and bonding at home about their experiences at church.

The following monthly themes will be incorporated into each week’s program:
September:  Building Belonging
October:  Cultivating Compassion
November:  Nurturing Gratitude
December:  Choosing Hope
January:  Practicing Resistance
February:  Embodying Resilience
March:  Paying Attention
April:  Embracing Possibility
May:  Awakening Curiosity
June:  Flourishing Together

Middle & High School After Service Meetup:
This year we will be offering an after-service time for teens and tweens to get together with one another to discuss topics of their choice such as social justice and incorporating our UU principles.  As this is a new event, we see it evolving based on interest and attendance.

Nursery (infants to 3 or 4 years old)
Supervised childcare is available each Sunday for infants age 3 or 4. Children are signed in and out by their parent/guardian and are picked up from the nursery room immediately after the service. There is no fee for this service.

Registration Information
The registration for RE classes for 2025-2026 has begun. Registration is required after the first visit in order for us to provide the best experience for your children. We will also have a weekly sign-in sheet in the church lobby on Sunday mornings to fill out upon arrival. This will give our classroom leaders an idea of who will be joining us each week.  There is no fee for participating in the RE programs. To help implement this benefit to members and regular guests, we ask that if you in addition to registering your child (children) into the RE program, that you also sign up to volunteer to contribute to one or more of the many RE programming duties.

Music Ministry

Music lives in our church community, both at our weekly services and at special events.

Every Sunday, there are opportunities for everyone to sing together and time is set aside to enjoy performed pieces. Our musicians blend traditional and contemporary musical styles to complement our services: for example, you may hear a Bob Dylan song, an Anglican chant, or a violin and cello duet.

Our church's professional staff and volunteers provide vocal & instrumental backup for hymns and
occasionally perform special music. Professional guest musicians regularly perform during Sunday services as well. Whether you are a listener or participant, this is a place where you can experience spiritual power through the beauty of music.

Soul Matters

Soul Matters

LCUUC subscribes to Soul Matters, an organization that provides monthly worship themes to many Unitarian Universalist congregations. In addition to providing themes and guidelines for Sunday Worship services, they also provide curriculum for small groups and for children’s religious education programs. These monthly themes provide many avenues for deeper understanding of our selves and connection with others.

Small Groups

The Soul Matters Small Groups Program offers a means to connect more deeply with ourselves and others.

Each group of approximately eight participants is led by a facilitator, and they meet with the same group every month. Each individual is asked to engage in one of the recommended spiritual exercises from a monthly packet and reflect on one question before each meeting. They come to the meeting ready to share their reflections on both. In addition to sharing reflections, they are asked to listen deeply to one another. The structured group format includes an opening, brief check-in, sharing of the spiritual exercise, discussion of the chosen question, gratitude check-out, and closing. The monthly meetings are held on Zoom or in-person depending on COVID guidelines and the wishes of the group.

Click here to see a sample Small Group Packet. The packets are given out to the groups as needed.
